Our Founder — Elmer Johnson
"Stronghold United was not born in a boardroom. It was born from lived experience — from knowing firsthand what it feels like to have no place to call home."
Elmer Johnson is the founder and owner of Stronghold United LLC — a community housing organization based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. What makes Elmer's story unique is not just his professional accomplishments — it is where he started.
Elmer grew up in the foster care system — moving through four different homes before being adopted. At 18 he transitioned out of the system and into the world largely on his own — with little support, no safety net, and no stronghold to stand in. Like so many young people who age out of foster care, Elmer faced the challenge of building a life from the ground up.
He did. Through determination, hard work, and an unshakeable belief that his circumstances did not define his future, Elmer built a successful professional career — becoming a respected leader and businessman in Oklahoma City.
But he never forgot where he came from. And he never stopped thinking about the veterans, seniors, returning citizens, and foster youth who are still fighting the same battles he once fought — without a stronghold to stand in.
Stronghold United was founded to change that. To make sure that no veteran sleeps outside, no senior loses their dignity, no returning citizen is left without a path forward, and no young person ages out of the system without a safe and stable place to begin their journey.
